马修詹姆士 is 萨克斯教授 and 爵士乐的研究 at the newbb电子平台音乐学院 in 雅典, 俄亥俄州. He serves as Director of 爵士乐的研究, directs Jazz Ensemble I, and teaches applied saxophone. He was a 访问ing Assistant Professor at the University of Toledo prior to joining the newbb电子平台 faculty in 1997. James was the recipient of the 2021 newbb电子平台音乐学院 Service Award and the 2008 newbb电子平台音乐学院 Outstanding Teaching Award.

James performed as lead alto saxophonist for 1-1/2 years with the Glenn Miller Orchestra, 周游美国.S., Canada, Japan and South America, recording, and appearing often on radio and television. He performed and recorded as lead alto saxophonist with the Phil Collins Big Band, touring 26 cities in the U.S. and Europe, including Montreux, Nice, The Hague, Milan, Copenhagen, Pori, and Carnegie Hall. A native of the Chicago suburb of Northbrook, 伊利诺斯州, he was awarded the BA in 音乐 and the BA in Journalism from Northern 伊利诺斯州 University. He earned the MM and DMA in Saxophone Performance from the University of North Texas, where he was a teaching fellow and lead alto saxophonist with the internationally-acclaimed One O’Clock Lab Band. He has studied saxophone with Stephen Duke and James Riggs.
